“Let’s break convention…..and shake things up” says lead vocalist Jay Stansfield (yes, it is he who brought us the stunning Life & Death album – see here) about new project All Hail Hyena.
From Lancashire, the threesome bring you an array of sounds termed ‘postpunkmathrockgaragepsych’ which will make you sit up and spit out your tea. Along with Tom Cross (bass) and Aiden Pilling (drums) they are steadily progressing through Last Band Standing – billed as the North West’s Best Band Competition’.
Their current EP, Damp Detector zips in between punk and Indie pop with little regard for anything else and gives us six tracks of pretty startling quality from Doing Yr Dole Wrong to Tom Waits For No One, the titles are as mad and intriguing as the music itself.
The sound is raw but well executed and they’ll soon be picking up admirers if they just get that little bit of a break, as Jay continued “We’re like little children at Christmas, all of us giddy about it all the time” such is the enthusiasm for the band who only formed in the Summer of this year.
Insisting they’re doing the opposite of what they should be doing, they’re clearly having a great time and knocking out great music. Twee boy band? Couldn’t be further from the truth.
