To celebrate the launch of plans by Bradford One to redevelop the former Odeon building into a large new live music venue in the city, they are holding a free outdoor gig on Sunday 14th July at City Park as part of Our Big Gig, a series of over 300 music events taking place across the country that weekend.

Preview – Bradford One: Our Big Gig

It’s been a long time coming but in two weeks the wait will be over. 9 months on from the collapse of plans to demolish the former Bradford Odeon building and replace it with luxury flats and offices, Bradford One (the Community Benefit Society formed to draw up a viable plan to reinstate the building as a major live performance venue) is preparing to release their vision to the public.

To mark the occasion, they have teamed up with the people behind Our Big Gig, a nationwide festival taking place at over 300 locations between the 11th and 14th July, and will be holding a free outdoor concert in the shadow of the building on City Park.

The line up for the event has been chosen to reflect some of the best up and coming acts in the city along with some established favourites, with a special guest appearance yet to be announced:

La La & The Booya

LA LA & THE BOOYA are a sibling duo from the UK. They make vocal-led electronic songs for dancefloors and kitchens and have been gaining an increasingly large following across several genres.

IDIOT BOX have been a feature of the Bradford circuit for some time and will be showcasing some new material for the first time at the event.

Brilliantly chaotic indie/ska band ANALOG BOMBS rarely fail to live up to their reputation and their own description of themselves: “Like being thrown through a chip shop window after being started on in a pub by a rude boy, a happy mondays fan and a northern soul DJ after spilling mild all over their shoes while slidey dancing in the pub next door.”

Kascarade

KASCARADE are a five piece retro sounding rock band from Bradford and have been rising to prominence since forming in 2010, recently announcing a recording contract and supporting The Hoosiers.

5 piece rock band WARME are playing having recently reformed after a break of several years that followed a successful European tour.

It is easy to imagine Do Miss America – with their authentic take on heartfelt blues rock – emanating from some dust-blown Midwestern prairie town. Surprisingly, it’s the battered industrial wastelands of West Yorkshire they call home.

Born Thief

Formerly known as Sharp Darts, BORN THIEF are a band that don’t fall into any generic category. Uniting to create a unique blend of grooves, flows and haunting melodies they have been steadily coming to a wider prominence as one of the most promising new bands in the city.

To anyone who has seen the eclectic MUCKY SAILOR live they will need little introduction. Describing themselves a “a steaming pile of noise, hair, synths and teeth” they will be performing live alongside local Dhol drummers for an “Electro-Bhangra” set that promises to be at the least memorable.

The day will also feature performances by the UND Collective (Grime/Hip Hop) and the Spice Bhagra Dancers and will be compered by Madame GooGoo, possibly the weirdest tribute to Lady Gaga you are ever likely to see.

Alongside the live music, there will be an outdoor bar provided by The 1in12 Club and there will also be opportunities for people to get involved in making music and supporting their local music scene, a key outcome of the event.

Bradford One: Our Big Gig takes place on Sunday 14th July 2013, 12-8pm on City Park, Bradford
