Nick Godfrey’s Precious Recordings Of London label was set up in 2020 to reissue previously unreleased BBC Radio Sessions. During 2024 the label made its first foray into releasing new material. The first of which were new recordings by Blueboy and The Loft in 25 years and 40 years respectively. Now in 2025 he’s taken the next step and announced what could be the first of an ongoing of Club Nights featuring talent from the label.

Taking things to the next level, Nick has announced Club Precious #1 which will take place on Tuesday September 30 at New River Studios in London featuring an unmissable triple-header of artistes who have recently released material on the Precious Recordings of London label. Tickets are available here

I’m not sure if Nick is a madman or a genius. Licensing your favourite Radio Sessions from some of your favourites artists, such as The Flaming Stars, Soup Dragons, The Bodines, The Orchids, Heavenly, bis and BMX Bandits which otherwise would languish in the vaults deserves applause, however when you see photos of Nick at home, surrounded by boxes of vinyl, putting together the beautiful packages containing postcards, badges and other ephemera… as well as producing a fanzine, ‘the zine in between’ in conjunction with wiaiwya (which also includes a separate supplementary fanzine)… you do have to wonder.

The trio of bands performing at the inaugural event are…

JOSIE. This will be the first-ever UK show for Danish-based indie-poppers playing their smash hit single Still Time and new LP before they head out for shows with the latest signings by Skep Wax, The Cords. SILVER BIPLANES are fresh from a triumphant appearance at Glas-Goes Pop, their only London show for the foreseeable future. They’ll be playing in support of their fabulous Coming Up For Air EP which was released at the beginning of August. Headlining will be THE LOVES. This will be the only London outing for everyone’s favourite bubble-gum outfit. Their Live at the BBC album featuring sessions recorded for John Peel and Marc Riley is available to pre-order now and will be released on 12th September.

Promoting the event, Nick says, ‘Doors at 7pm, ahead of 7.45pm sharp start – £12 (+ inevitable booking fee). We’ll probably play some records too and sell a few records.’

Will this be an ongoing concern? Hopefully yes, as he’s already booked the venue and one of the bands for the Club Precious #2

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
