Peter Hook & The Light announce Australian dates + CD release

Peter Hook & The Light are set to play two sellout hometown gigs this weekend, these will be rather special as the set will comprise a live playback of both Joy Division’s ”ËœUnknown Pleasures’ and ”ËœCloser’ albums.

Fri 18th & Sat 19th November 2011 -The Lowry, Salford

With a intimate pre Lowry warm up taking place this Wednesday 16th November as part of The Castle in Oldham’s 10th Anniversary Celebrations, The Lowry gigs mark a sort of homecoming for Peter Hook who grew up in nearby Ordsall close to the now rejeuvanated Salford Quays.
The gigs came about because of Hooky’s close affinity to Salford and after a performance with Howard Marks there last year, and using the venue as a base for interviews, this relationship led to The Lowry offering The Light the venue, something that Hooky and the band were delighted to take up and the much loved Manchester icon Rowetta joins the band across both concerts.

“I am very proud to be playing two totally sold out gigs in my home town, especially in a venue I consider to be one of the best in the country. It’s a stone throw from where I was born and raised and with Media City attached is now a really great place. HEART and SOUL!” Peter Hook

The Lowry Concerts see The Light perform both “Unknown Pleasures” and “Closer” for the first time in the same concert, The Light having toured both of these albums world-wide since May 2010. Both gigs are entirely sold out and all seater making the concerts a very special event.

Guests at either concert are new Hacienda Records artists, Super White Assassin (Fri 18th Nov) who are set to release their debut 4 Track EP “In Formation” on the label in January 2012 and also the long term Factory Records stalwarts Section 25, who play Saturday 18th November showcasing both classic material and their recent “Invicta” EP released last month by the label (LTW review)

“I’m really looking forward to Section 25 playing at The Lowry and playing with Hooky. A seated venue and an intermission!, At my age it doesn’t get much better! ‘ Vincent Cassidy, Section 25

In other news, for Peter Hook And The Light, these shows act as a forerunner to a string of dates coming up between now and the end of the year, across Israel, Greece, Denmark, Italy and Holland.
In 2012, the band have just announced a return tour of Australia following the success of their tour in September with shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

And finally as part of Hacienda Records ongoing partnership with US indie label 24 Hour Service Station, The Light’s debut EP, “1102 / 2011” is to be released as a physical CD as an extended edition featuring all four original tracks, four instrumentals and two unreleased a cappellas of the Rowetta sung Atmosphere.
Reissued in a jewel box sleeve which features James Chadderton’s highly acclaimed, visually stunning cover, the “1102 / 2011” EP its name from the palindromic recording date of 11th February 2011 at Blueprint Studios, Salford and Rowetta’s admired versions of “Atmosphere”, “New Dawn Fades” and “Insight” while Hook on unreleased Joy Divison “Pictures In My Mind”.

The CD is released in the States on Tuesday 22nd November and internationally on Monday 5th December.

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.

  1. I had a great time at the show in NYC. The set list was amazing and they sounded great live, my favorites were Isolation, Heart & soul, Decades, & Atmosphere. After the show I was Lucky enough to go backstage and meet Peter Hook and took some pictures and got some autographs.

Here is the pic of the Venue

Here is a pic of the setlist.

Here is Hook signing some autographs for me.

This is a little souvineer that I bought for myself at the show for $20, which is not bad at all, usually they are $30

Sorry that I could not take any pictures during the show, because my camera sucks in the dark.
