3) Patti Smith – Just Kids
Zoe Howe’s top 10 music books : number 3
This book is beautiful and I can’t wait to read it all over again. Not strictly a ‘music book’ per se, Just Kids is Patti’s heartfelt portrait of her early years in New York, meeting and eventually living with the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, living the bohemian dream in the run-down Chelsea Hotel and meeting all sorts of incredible characters. Patti Smith always seems to exude a powerful, earthy sense of magic, and that quality shines from the pages of this book.
