April 2nd 2016

Years & Years © Melanie SmithLouder Than War photographer Melanie Smith caught up with 3 piece chart toppers, electro pop band Years & Years in Manchester on their sold out UK tour. A night of electronic pop artists at the top of their game.

It has been an incredible 12 months for the band, going from strength to strength, with best selling album Communion under their belt and amassing a huge fanbase in the process. We witnessed  an enormous overflow of admiration for the band, and also praise for the excellent support acts MØ and Nimmo, who warmed the crowd up nicely for the main band.

Flamboyant and quirky pop Frontman Olly Alexander appeared through the stripes of red beamed lighting and from the go get the crowd were under their spell for the rest of the evening.  The high energetic theme of the show continued with their heartwarming dance anthems long after I’d emerged from the photo pit and headed home. Check out my photos from the show in the gallery below.

Live reviews editor and head of photography: I can't imagine my life without music or photography, both go hand in hand and have played a big part in my life. I have experienced many musical genres, northern soul in 1975, the early punk movement, drifting into the electronic 'new Romantic' era, a trip around the rock scene, a taste of indie and a smattering of pop. I possess an eclectic taste in music and a lust for life; new experiences are what drives this machine. I still have that punk DIY spirit and used this to create my own website Mudkiss Fanzine in 2008 - 2013. I am the official photographer for 'Louder Than Words' music literary festival and a house photographer for Academy Music Group. Available for commissioned work, please contact me
