Will Sergeant announces new band and 3 UK dates…

In a somewhat clipped press statement issued today Will Sergeant announced that he has a new instrumental band;

Sergeant one of the founding members of Echo & The Bunnymen has now formed Poltergeist; what’s more he has drafted into the line-up other original Bunnymen member Les Pattinson on customary bass duties, the line-up being completed with the addition of current Bunnymen member Nick Kilroe on drums

Poltergeist have announced three UK shows in Glasgow, London & and a hometown gig in Liverpool during March 2013. Tickets are on sale now.

Wednesday March 13th – Oran Mor, Glasgow Ticket Info

Thursday March 14th – Hoxton Bar & Grill, London

Saturday March 16th – The Kazimier, Liverpool Ticket Info

The only other information and clue to the Poltergeist sound can be found on a short video leaked onto YouTube;

A short audio clip has been made available via Soundcloud – the untitled track was recorded in Liverpool this summer, and is thought to form the basis of a EP for release in 2013.

Clearly Sergeant remains part of Echo & The Bunnymen, the Poltergeist website is hosted via the Bunnymen homepage, and the Bunnymen have recently announced a UK tour in May 2013 when they support James.

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.
