London indie soul rockers The Milk release the highly anticipated follow up to the ecstatically received Favourite Worry in January 2020. Preceding this release, the first single to be revealed from the album, Cages, is Never Come Down.
The band explain the background and inspiration for the song:
“Never Come Down is the response to a re-engagement with Nicherin Buddhism. A philosophy that holds the dignity of life, value creation and reaching your highest potential at the centre of its core principles. The entire song loops around three chords in a square 6/8 drum pattern that’s conventionally swung giving it a jolted, almost tape loop effect. It doesn’t have a beginning nor does it an end. The fades in and out of the song further signify the cyclical, everlasting nature of it. The chords conjure a flavour of determination and intent. This idea is summarised in the lyric ‘it’s time to take your joy more seriously’”
The striking song is a joyously stunning return. It is certain to build on the glowing plaudits the band received for Favourite Worry from across the world of music, including high praise from a certain Elton John.
Louder Than War is proud to premiere the visually captivating video for the single.
“The video for Never Come Down, starring Charlotte Faith and her mesmerising dance skills, was a pleasure to make. I think we were all particularly motivated to help create this video because of the fact that we weren’t in it. The narrative is of a dancer who, rather than reacting to the music she hears, she conducts it! Not entirely of this world, she’s able to control the music as well as alter the physical nature of the world she performs within. Whether that be a watery abyss, the surface of a black lake, or vaulting clouds of electric mist. We bloody love it!” explains Ricky”
