The Vibrators

Rebellion festival, Blackpool

10th Aug 2013

It’s fair to say that the Vibrators have been round the block a few times.

Nearly 40 years in and with one remianing member, this band should be heading for the burnout but, remarkably, they put in one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen them play.

I’m not quite sure why this is. They are playing the late slot in the Olympia with its attendent sound problems but they cut through the sonic murk here with a gnarled presicion. Without mini punk icon Knox on vocals after his retirment the band seem fired up again and with long term member Eddie, who has been there for every twist and turn of punk driving the band along, the Vibrators suddenly seem ready to reach a new phase in there tumultous career.

There is something about tonight’s performance of self penned standards and long lost hits that is pure punk rock. It’s about the now. Not the past and the future. It’s purley in the present. It’s tight and hard, it’s not slack and the band play with a fierce and pwerful determntion that rewrites the rules. If you haven’t checked the Vibarors out for some time we urge you to go and see them again. Like the UK Subs they are going down fighting and it has brought the best out in them.
