Twitter plans to launch music discovery service
Twitter is reportedly planning on launching a music discovery app later in March.
The social network is reportedly launching a music-specific app for iOS devices which would allow users to favourite artists and songs and share recommendations.
There would also be an element of music discovery as users were provided with recommendations for artists and songs based on their account.
Development for the app follows Twitter’s acquisition of music discovery service We Are Hunted last year.
Staff have been tweeting using the hashtag #nowplaying for a month and a demo app has included links to suggestions and popular music as well as an emerging artists section. It uses bios from Soundcloud and previews tracks in iTunes.
The digital music market is highly competitive although there are still relatively few services, and even large scale players like Spotify struggle to satisfy artists while making a profit themselves.
Twitter are yet to comment, reports the Guardian.
