In a statement on his website, Tom Waits said, “There have been rumblings and rumours. New music from Tom Waits, you say? Come to TomWaits.com on Tuesday August 23rd, and Mr. Waits himself will set the record straight.”
There is a new track, ‘Bad As Me’ up on youtube. Over the patented Waits clattering drums and blues guitar, he growls “they told me you were no good” with unnerving brilliance and great and sinister chorus of “You’re the same kind of bad as me”.
The long awaited “Bad As Me,” is Tom Waits’ first studio album in seven years and is a collaboration with his co-producer and co-writer Kathleen Brennan as well as many other musicians. You can pre-order the album on his website.
Tom Waits statement continues “Like a good boxer, these songs are lean and mean, with strong hooks and tight running times. A pervasive sense of players delighting in each other’s musical company brings a feeling of loose joy even to the album’s saddest songs.”
Waits’ last album of new material, “Real Gone,” was released in 2004. Since then there’s been a three-disc collection of rare and unreleased songs ”â the brilliantly and accurately named Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards.
He has released a total of 24 albums, beginning with “Closing Time” in 1973. In March, the 61-year-old singer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame- whatever that is…
Someone has even already done a cover of the upcoming album’s title track! months before it’s even come out…
