The Third Sound have announced details of their forthcoming fifth album, First Light, released on Fuzz Club Records on the 27th of August. Check out the video for the song Your Love Is Evol here.
Led by Brian Jonestown Massacre guitarist Hákon Aðalsteinsson, the Berlin-based band return with another song that combines their love of neo-psych and shoegaze to great effect. The bass rumbles beneath a swirling organ, the song rising into a dense cacophony to showcase a development in their sound that adds more light to their usual shade, a dynamic that they say defines their new album, First Light. It shifts through a shuffling noir-psych, Aðalsteinsson’s voice equally yearning and menacing. In the breaks, the guitars crash in to craft an almost impenetrable sound that suddenly breaks to allow the light to crack through, until the end, when the band build and build a wall of sound.
The album is already available on pre-order from Fuzz Club and, on the evidence of Your Love Is Evol, it promises to be another psych-dripped class album from the label.
On the album, Aðalsteinsson states: “This album is definitely less gloomy than the previous one, although some ghosts from the past are lurking in the background. We always try to make something new on each album and never make the same album over again, but this feels like an even bigger change than usual, especially regarding the mood. Something new is beginning although the past is not forgotten. I think the title, First Light, describes the overall feel of the record pretty well.”
