8. Slade – Slayed (1972)

Loved them then and love them now. I bought this in 1972 when it came out and played it incessantly. They wrote great songs, were local lads  and could really play. Gudbuy T’Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now etc are amazing songs and I rushed out to Slip-A-Disc Records (or whatever it was called in Redditch) the next day and bought Slade Alive! Another stonker. I wasn’t hugely into glam rock (I never owned any stack soled boots as I was scared of heights dum tish!) but T.Rex’s Electric Warrior and this glittered up my world back then. Their spelling also infuriated my Dad so another plus in my book.
