7. Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 (1972)

Shend ‘I found the original of this double sixties garage psyche compilation amid the dog-eared Bert Kaempfart LPs in a Redditch junk shop. That awesome psychedelic gatefold sleeve made me hand over my 50p without me knowing a single band. Up until then psychedelia had been seeing the sleeve of the Beatles Sgt. Peppers in David Parsons kitchen while scoffing his Mother’s freshly baked scones. Suddenly, ripped down fuzzed two minute masterpieces blasted out of my Amstrad Mucus Centre. The Chocolate Watchband, The Strangeloves, Shadows of Knight, The Seeds and 23 other weird and wonderful drug fuelled manic slices of Sixties mayhem. My favourite was and is, The Electric Prunes, I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night which is a pop classic. Owning this led to me hoovering up many of the Pebbles, Rubble and Highs In The Mid-Sixties comps which can be relied upon to provide a plethora of speedy garage punk ditties. Personally I’d avoid most of the Brit psyche stuff as it’s a bit too, ‘gnomes skipping up hillocks’ for me.
