Devo – Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! (1978)

Shend ‘If I was forced to name my favourite band ever, Devo would probably win. They’ve never let me down and this LP broke what I thought I liked about music wide open. There is an utter warped joy to what they do, like children discovering a new toy using a hammer. It’s all so silly and simple yet hits the reality nerve on the head and makes you think. You can dance to it, sing along to it and it’s impossible to hear a Devo song without picturing them performing it. As you can tell from a lot of my choices here, I have always loved bands with an identity, who put on a show, dress up and entertain an audience. To me it is a mark of respect to the folk who have shelled out their hard earned dosh to come and see you. In simple terms. Make a ruddy effort you slovenly bastards!’
