A 20 foot high mural of the late Mark E Smith is being painted on his local chippie in his hometown of Prestwich as part of the Bury suburb’s up-coming arts festival.

The painting will be on the gable end of Chips@No.8 on Clifton Road in the centre of the village. The art piece will be in safe hands as its being painted by Akse P19, who painted the iconic Northern Quarter murals of David Bowie and Tony Wilson.

Work on the painting began at the weekend and will be completed during the Prestwich Arts Festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
