This truly is the terror of modern life. Intransigent ideologies, hate filled rhetoric and institutionalised misunderstandings from all sides. And we are not taking any sides- just sat here in the cultural crossfire trying to make sense of it all.

The heart breaking tragedy at Charlie Hebdo is shocking even by modern day standards when gunning people down for a god who was never asked seems to be an all too common occurrence along with the 24/7 backdrop of the endless suffering of the eternal wars that are going on all over the planet. The 21st century is a time of hate and war and a time when anyone with a grievance can get a gun and get their own way bending any ideology to suit themselves.

Is this really how we want to live? Are we to spend the next century staring at each-other in mutual incomprehension? Is a hail of bullets from either side the only answer we have got left?

Yesterday as they pumped their bullets into the men with crayons did the assassins ever ask what kind of god recoils from laughter, what kind of god is frightened of a crayon, what kind of god uses an AK47? the answer is no god as there was no god in that room just an insult to someone else’s faith putting millions of decent peoples lives at risk.

As every tin pot dictator, rampaging capitalist, religious zealout or and gun toting psycho eventually finds the pen is truly mightier than the sword.
