The Otherness: Live review of young Argentinean hopefulsThe Otherness

Live Review

It’s a mighty long way down rock n roll.

Sometimes its from one side of the world to the other.

Somehow, The Otherness, have got themselves out of Argentina and are touring the toilet circuit of the UK and building up a grass roots name from themselves.

It’s like a 21st century version of the Beatles in Hamburg which is quite apt as the band have a whiff of the youthful fabs about them. It’s like a take on the leather jacket Hamburg Beatles with all that youthful hi jinx and leather jacket bonhomie revived via the Ramones and the Clash for the 21st century.

They even have the two singer thing going on with a gringo John and Paul routine that split off for their own vocal before returning for perfect harmony. This two singer thing is another nod to another key influence the Clash and Mick and Joe are in there somewhere as well as even the Libertines, that kind of switching lead vox attack and the different flavours that this can provide.

Their set is peppered with various covers but where they really take off is with their own material and they have a sprightly set of their own tunes that should be expanded on. From a country in love with rock n roll this is a band that is telling their own truth with a wide eyed innocence so rare in the cynical world of modern rock n roll.

It would be good to have them back some time.
