From Argentina and making waves in their home country the Otherness decided to make a jaunt to London and wrote a tour diary about life at the bottom end of the gig circuit where hope drives ambition…
OTHERNESS: louder than war aswell!
OTHERNESS is a young electro punk rock collective from the deep south of the world (La Patagonia, Argentina). The band is touring Europe for the first time, and they had a very productive year in Latin America: big TV shows performances, magazine covers and the energy to play all over the region.
After being “examinated” for 4 hours in Gatwick Airport, Martin + Gonzalo + Adrián + Pablo, finally entered London. The boys are giggin’ a lot and they are happy ”Ëcause theyôve got a story to tell.
OTHERNESS played in Italy -Torino was the highlight- just before arriving to London. When I met OTHERNESS boys i get to know that there’s a sense of funny revenge in their words: “Everybody was able to enter any South American country after the Second World War, now it seems you have to be a millionaire flirting with a royal woman to enter the european capitol cities ôcause everyone is so paranoid about immigration and stuff. Every time we hit London streets we can easily notice that english people is an ethnic minority”Â. Yes. They laugh about it. The sense of humor is a key fact in the band regarding they had to go thru hard times to become what they are in a period in which music business is stained with the word “crisis”Â.
OTHERNESS played at Water Rats with Sex Pistolsô Glen Matlock, The Bowery, The comedy pub, The 93 Feet East, The Roadtrip, SOAS University in the middle of the conflict between students and the government! and they are attracting a young and diverse audience that seems tired of old fashioned rock and cold dehumanized electronic music.
The band is staying at Journeys Hostel in Kings Cross and they told me everything is cool there; they get to meet people from all over the world and the only critical fact is that OTHERNESS boys have to deal with cold showers on a daily basis. Apart from that, they told me that they are still unsigned though they are in touch with some labels and management agencies. I couldn’t believe they walked 350 blocks to take Domino Records staff by surprise at their own offices! OTHERNESS is “an interesting four piece, sounding unlike anything I’ve heard before, mellow yet feisty songs with a hint of electro. I love the vocals and rhythm that seems to come so easily to them, without trying too hard to impress. OTHERNESS have passion and dedication and truly sound brilliant!” That review from Amy Bakers “Rock Pulse” got the boys here in London:
“We came to London with little money, a cool review of one of our digital singles and a scrapbook with some contacts from magazines, venues and labels. We didnôt even arrange a single gig before gettinô to London. We have a strong belief in our music and we know that ”Ëcrisis’ means ”Ëopportunities’ to people like us. We are unsigned but we are looking for a cool label and management. We have 46 original songs and itôs bloody great to perceive how the england boys and girls are reacting to OTHERNESS music. Itôs just a matter of time and hard work, right here, right now. Yaô know?”Â.
It seems OTHERNESS has already started with their own ELECTRO ROCK CRUSADE!
