Punk though up so many ideas that it's a shame that it has become so linear. One of them was the rewriting of the script over women in music- no longer the fluffy dolly bird punk women could be anything they wanted to be. This tradition was picked up on in the USA in the 90s with the Riot Grrrl movement which combined a modern feminist politic a demand to reclaim the space for women and also was a scene of great bands, especially Bikini Kill who were fronted by the fiery and charismatic Kathleen Hanna.
