In 2001 I started making and releasing handmade limited edition CDs
available only through younggodrecords.com or at live shows. The
recordings have been done with one stereo mic on my desk, no overdubs,
just a casual performance in my office at home. Most of the songs
presented are versions I recorded immediately after writing the song
”“ they’ve also served as demos I can give to the musicians with
whom I’m working to develop the material. The recordings were not
(and are not) meant for general public consumption, just for dedicated
followers and supporters of the music. these special packages have
been instrumental in helping to fund studio recordings by Angels of
Light, and now also Swans ”“ serving both as collectible items and as
fundraisers for the recording projects. Since these titles are all
permanently out of print now, I’ve decided to make a digital
collection of what I view as the highlights available.”

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.
