Supernormal Festival

The Supernormal Festival lineup is as good as complete now and all indications suggests it’s once again going to be one of the most eclectic, forward thinking, iconoclastic and adventurous of festivals you’ll be able to find in the UK this summer. Festival goers looking for something a bit off the beaten track: Supernormal is probably just what you’re after.

Set to run over the weekend of 7th – 9th August, Supernormal is this year entering a bold new chapter by putting an emphasis on “innovation and intrigue” while staying true to its original passionate drive of championing “the most resolutely vibrant figures in the underground, to dissolve generic constraints amidst art forms and to offer a full-throttle alternative to stultifying cultural conservatism.”

The “notes for editors” section of a press release isn’t often something we bother ourselves with to be honest, but as a potted manifesto for Supernormal festival this one nails the ethos the esoteric arts celebration perfectly, so before we jump in with a list of the activities and artists on the cards at Supernormal 2015 read this…

“SUPERNORMAL is a three day, experimental arts and music festival at Braziers Park in Oxfordshire, presenting an innovative weekend of art-focused practice in unfamiliar settings where acts and events can surprise and delight. A collaborative event embracing art and music outside of the mainstream, SUPERNORMAL remains determinedly small and intimate (capacity 1500) and has been born from a place that values the currency of ideas and imagination rather than commercialism and profit.”

And as if that isn’t enough, this year the festival is partnering with our friends at Blue Tapes who readers should already be familiar with through such posts on Louder Than War as this and this – amongst others!

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.
