SUNN O))) have announced full details of a European tour this spring / summer, which’ll include dates at Temples Festival (from where we’ll be reporting back in depth), Primavera, Dour, Øya & David Byrne’s fucking Meltdown, which is shaping up to be one of the best (stop me if you’ve heard this before) ever Meltdowns. Full details after the jump…

SUNN O))) need little introduction to seasoned Louder Than War readers – they’ve been featured on this site so many times that a google site search on Louder Than War for the term “Sunn O)))” yields 382 results which, as you’ll have no doubt already worked out yourselves, is more than one every day of the year.

The band have “…played a large hand in defining the course of modern experimental and extreme music since their inception in 1998” says the press release heralding the tour news, and we find ourselves in staunch agreement. In 2014 they released a collaboration album with Ulver entitled Terrestrials (which we gave a perfect 10/10, and which some of us consider a better record than the next one referenced in this paragraph), and then continued with another exciting partnership, this time with legendary singer / composer Scott Walker for Soused (4AD) (our review), which met with great acclaim and wound up on countless end of year lists (like ours, where it stormed the top 10).

Having already announced a number of key festival appearances this spring, SUNN O))) are extending their touring schedule with more live action, including shows in Berlin, Moscow, Hamburg and an appearance at David Byrne’s Meltdown with Phurpa.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.

  1. I have been trying to figure out if Scott Walker would be performing with Sun O))) at the Meltdown festival…. considering he mentioned he is (somehow) open to play Soused live, the Meltdown seems to be a likely pick. Any information if this is the case would be highly appreciated!
