I was in Manchester this afternoon and the town was buzzing with rumours that the Stone Roses were to reform.
There was talk of a press conference on Tuesday with a ‘very special announcement’ and then about an hour later rumours began to spread on Twitter.
The legendary band who have denied reformation rumours for years are the centre of an avalanche of rumours about playing two big shows in Manchester next summer.
For me, I would be happy to see Reni playing the drums again. Even if it was just him it would be worth it – still one of the greatest drummers I have ever seen. The band may get fed up of these reformation rumours but they have to remember the special place the occupy in the culture of the city and in british rock n roll. They will also deliver, we are talking about great players who are capable of delivering great work.
A major music PR has called a press conference in London on Tuesday to make a “very important announcement”, without stating which band or musician it relates to. It’s all very hush hush.
Ian brown and John Squire have been talking recently and had an amicable meeting recently. Mani has always wanted it to happen and Reni has been lying low. John Squire had recently been concentrating on painting and Ian Brown taking time out from a successful solo career.
Reforming makes sense, there is a sense of unfinished business, that ‘don’t fuck with the chemistry’ that Joe Strummer talked about in the Clash film, it’s very rare you 4 people people who work together seamlessly, why not utilise it?
Recently they had denied reformation rumours and probably only recently decided to make the big move, if they have it would be exciting, if not then the rumour mill is proof of how much people want this to happen.
A lot of people wish the Clash had reformed. Life is short and you still got yer hair and you still look like the Roses… just do it…
