I was a bit slow to the Dame. Wasn’t mad about Ziggy but half of it (5 years/Moonage daydream) was amazing enough to keep my interest. I think I became a full-on Bowie convert when I heard “John, I’m only dancing” under the bedcovers with my transistor radio tuned to Radio Luxembourg one night. Preferred Hunky Dory & Man Who Sold The World to Aladdin Sane so I was thinking his best work was behind him when, lo and behold, he ditched the Spiders, discovered Neu! & Brion Geesin’s cut-ups and released his masterpiece, Diamond Dogs. Candidate/Sweet Thing is my favourite Bowie album track of all time, hands down.
