Sly & The Family Stone – Greatest Hits


Feels a bit wrong having a greatest hits album in the list but it’s inevitable with any kind of dance music, which is singles based. As an old soul boy they bridged the gap between classic song-based soul and the looser groove that became the basis of later styles. The funk starts here. ‘Thank You (Faletinme Be Mice Elf Agin)’ one of my favourite ever tracks.
