The Pop Group – Y

Stephen Mallinder

‘Another Bristol sound that shook everything up. I remember early gigs when we played with them – and particularly one they did at Rafters in Manchester with Pere Ubu – totally mind-blowing. They made the very brave decision of making this album as a real ‘dub’, rip apart mix with Denis Bovell and it came off. Bruce Smith, along with Jaki Leibezeit, one of the drumming gods. Like ACR they defined music and style for a whole load of up and coming bands.’
