Standon Calling 2018 – Festival preview
Standon Calling is one of many festivals to look forward to this summer so as we air our tents, find a half-finished packet of crisps in the bottom of our sleeping bags and wonder if the weather will dictate our enjoyment or not, it’s the tunes we want to start getting familiar with as winter turns into spring time. Keith Goldhanger presents a few recommendations for this year’s event.
Standon Calling festival in the Hertfordshire countryside have announced the 2018 line up and yet again it appears we’ll be treated to a weekend of great bands from the moment we wake up to the time we finally get our weary heads down onto our improvised pillows (because we always forget to take a pillow to festivals don’t we?).
Regulars at Standon Calling will always be looking to increase their personal list of new bands seen for the first time over this weekend and yet again the list of bands we would like to tell you all about will be the ones appearing during the daylight hours.
This festival along with Confidence Man were made for each other. No stage times have been announced yet but whatever time of day or night this fabulous dance act are on could surely by one of the weekends highlights. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club continue a massive worldwide tour they’ve been on since time began and Gaz Coombes, always welcome anytime and anywhere will also be a weekend highlight if his new album World’s Strongest Man is anything to go by.
Goldfrapp, The Horrors, Django Django and Shame continue the high quality selection of bands we’ll be tapping our toes to and then if there’s still any fire left in our highly charged bellies as the midnight hour approaches the Festival is rounded off each day with Paloma Faith, George Ezra and Brian Ferry all gracing the main stage. There’ll be a rare appearance from Japanese psychedelic band Acid Mothers Temple too as well DJ’s of the highest quality including Too Many DJ’s and Hot Chip that will be spread around the site over the weekend.
There will be Comedy, fancy dress, a dog show and decent ale. There’s a swimming pool, it’s very family friendly (Horrible Histories returns after a highly successful late morning appearance in 2017) and because it rained a little last year it’s bound to be warm and sunny during the last weekend of July this year.
Here’s some tunes from the bands we’ll be planning on standing in front of this year.
Standon Calling takes place on the scenic land of Standon Lordship just outside the village of Standon in East Hertfordshire, close to Ware and Bishop’s Stortford and will take place from July 26 to July 29 this year.
