Spooky Wagons: All Again Tomorrow – EP review
Spooky Wagons are based in Coventry, they describe themselves as ‘Folk, Blues and Soul’ and they have just released their new EP on Soundcloud, Adrian Bloxham as been listening to it for Louder Than War.
This is a well produced, well played slice of pure cool. A young and fresh sounding collection of five songs. Odes to teenage hangovers, driving along motorways and lusting after strangers are swept through with a splash of sunshine and piano.
‘Youth’ is upbeat and gentle with a folky understated groove. It takes you to a sun dazzled blue sky that make your tired eyes squint. It’s like sitting and laughing in the pub with your mates. ‘Seatbelts’ is harder and more upbeat. It’s the jot of driving fast to nowhere in particular, it’s got a classic feel and swagger. The ‘Mercury Interlude is a piece ofstylish jazzy piano.
‘Courage Shots’ is a glossy sexy song to a stranger, reeking of smoky nights and disco lights. ‘Keep My Heart’ is a Rock’n’Roll shuffle with folky harmonies and another upbeat feel.
The music is played to perfection and Nathan’s voice is just right, these guys are going places. The five songs are confident and as I may have already said very very cool, Well worth a click onto soundcloud to check out. Keep your eyes on this lot.
All words by Adrian Bloxham. More work by Adrian on Louder Than War can be found here.
