New single from the mighty Soom T, one of the best Reggae MC’s around at the moment.

Soom T has long been regarded has having one of the most versatile lyrical flows of any MCs plying their trade these days, and Our World sees the diminutive Glaswegian showcasing the more harmonic side of her vocal range.

The riddim from Spanish producer Echorek is a classic beachside reggae fare, with plenty of horns thrown in to heighten the summer vibes, but despite its undoubted splendor, and having one of the world’s most talented MCs at its mercy, ‘Our World’ fails to add up to the sum of its parts.

It starts fabulously enough to a toe-tapping, finger clicking beat, and flirting dangerously close to being reminiscent of a bad late 90s girls TV show theme,  but it is around the third verse, when the brass starts to emerge and the lyrics slip waywardly off the beat, a position from which it doesn’t recover to become one of Soom’s better tracks.

Gareth Main is a DJ and sometimes music writer, he hosts a monthly show on the John Peel-inspired Dandelion Radio [], a weekly six-track podcast at Mixcloud (see link above) and runs the GM Sounds record label []. He was founder of Bearded Magazine, which was in proper shops, including WH Smiths, Borders and over 1,000 record shops, newsagents and supermarkets before it went the way of most physical music magazines in 2010. Bearded launched with the aim of increasing coverage of independent artists and record labels who missed out on coverage in the mainstream media, and GM Sounds does the same - delivering interesting artists to the public on lovingly pressed 12” vinyl.
