Last week British country duo, The Shires, performed an exclusive album preview show at the One Embankment Club in London. Paul Grace reported for Louder Than War.

The Shires are the most successful British country duo to date, and were the first UK country act ever to have a top 10 album in their home country. Previously they’ve performed at the BBC Music Awards and on the Graham Norton Show where they shared the sofa alongside Ann Hathaway and Robert De Niro.

Most recently they played a triumphant headline set on Glastonbury’s Acoustic Stage, and fresh off the back of that performance they threw an intimate album preview party in the capital last week at the prestigious One Embankment Club.

300 lucky fans were in attendance and during the 45 minute set, Crissie and Ben previewed songs off their new release, My Universe, which is due to land on 7th October. The new tracks are clear evidence of how recording in Music City, Nashville has further developed their songwriting skills for creating super-catchy country-pop, with huge mainstream appeal. On recording the new album, The Shires said, “It was great to go back to Nashville. This time we had a different approach as we knew it better and we practically lived there. We have friends there now and for some reason when you write and record there you just feel more inspired. It definitely comes through in the new music.”

Decked out with mirror balls and festoon lighting, One Embankment was the perfect setting for the intimate party, and we were treated to canapés and drinks throughout the evening. The Shires were on top feel-good form, and along with the new tracks they also played a good selection of old favourites which the fans loved; ‘Nashville Grey Skies’ and ‘Friday Night’, amongst many others.

Following the show, they both mingled with their fans and also posed for photos in the pop-up photo booth.

To coincide with the release of My Universe, The Shires embark on a full tour in November.
