6. Boytronic: You

This track is still unknown in the UK but was a big hit in Germany in the 80’s. Their break came when Kim Wilde failed to make a TV appearance and these guys were drafted in to replace her! I love the hypnotic parts of the track. It’s pretty much followed us around in Germany wherever we’ve gone, so much so we played it live in Hamburg once! Rumour has it that the notes are Blue Monday played backwards, but I’m not so sure.

7. Pet Shop Boys: Love Comes Quickly

When I first started listening to synth stuff I disliked the PSB a lot. The coffee table yuppie thing rubbed me up the wrong way back then. Then one day years later this song came on and the penny dropped. I was speechless, it’s perfect. I still rarely play this song because I don’t want to overplay it. I’ve done that before, and it’s a bit like when your chewing gum loses it’s flavour.

8. The Faint: Paranoia Attack

It was 2003 and we’d just started out as a band. We were interested in synths and stuff, but we were learning our trade for sure. We were carrying far too much equipment around with us on tour and had no idea how to achieve the vibe were going for on stage (which was basically a live top of the pops style performance, in a small club, with lots of snarling). The Faint were the only band at that time who showed me how it could be done well.

9. Jan Hammer: Crockett’s Theme

I find nostalgia a bit annoying most of the time. However, sometimes, when the mood takes me I like to sit with glass of wine, put my sunglasses on and listen to this over and over again…

10. Depeche Mode: Told You So

Pretty underrated, but I think this song has everything and I never get bored of hearing it. I DJ it now and then, and people love it!
