Louder_Than_War_LogoDear Jeremy,

The Tory party conference is perhaps the most rancid, smug and dangerous affair I can remember for years. The ruling party seem free to do and say what they want, claiming to reclaim the centre ground whilst lurching even further to the right, a rogue’s gallery of foul and incompetent villains like Ian Duncan Smith and Andrea Leadsome free to roam around the corridors and airwaves of power with their selfish , mean and frankly low IQ soundbites and agendas. It’s come to something when Theresa May is seen as the moderate one!

Some of the stuff they talk about would have made Thatcher flinch and the triumphant hot air and chest beating pomposity is more like the last night of the Proms than a political party. Instead of competing with UKIP for votes they have chewed up, digested and shat out UKIP and become the UKIP/Nasty party hybrid.

We are living in desperate and nasty times where doggerel is policy and so called ‘common sense’ is pub racism and we need a challenge, a voice, a critique, a snappy soundbite, something…anything.

We haven’t quite reached the depths of Trumpolitcs but it’s getting close. And yet there seems to be no debate. It’s like the lunatics really have taken over the asylum and there is no reply, no criticism – just a deafening silence.

Jeremy – these are no times for holidays…there is so much ammunition out there that maybe you don’t know where to start, maybe your brand of polite politics is a tad too quiet or maybe you are about to get started – but we are running out of time. We need to hear your voice, anyone’s voice, a voice now – we need that voice to be levelled, intelligent and non stop – we need the other side of the argument.

Speak up man – the ship is sinking.

  1. How exactly is anyone surprised by this? He is far and away the worst leader of a mainstream UK political party I have ever seen. And I’m a bleeding lefty.

  2. Fair comment, I can only think Labour are allowing the Tories to speak for themselves as that will do as much damage. Perhaps, its the media not prepared to give Corbyns Labour airtime. If ever there was any proof about the bias of the MSM it is the coverage of this conference. Every word that fell from Labours mouth was picked apart, ridiculed, dismissed and given a good kick in for good measure. When it comes to the Tories and them not having a direction on anything, awful banal speeches and out right theft of Labour policies, the MSM dont seem to be as rigorous in their analysis or critique. We will need to look no further if our Great country is sold out for the establishments interest. We will not forget and we will not forgive.

  3. Strange isn’t it – history repeating itself. All that energy winning a second mandate and then foot off the pedal and the Tories get another free ride … Corbyn and crew appear to want to park the bus and wait for 2020…. when they should be on the offensive … I remember an anecdotal story Meat Loaf tells about taking Bat out of Hell on the road …. saying he’d sell the bloody thing if it damn near killed him…. it almost did … Jeremy should be adopting the same process – demanding the Tories hold an election as soon as possible because they have an unelected leader etc….

    • NO. I think Jeremy is waiting for all their peppershots that they can come out with everyday at Tory conference and then best thing is not come back potshot for potshot but come back with an overall voley,

The thing is with instant media and instant politics and soundbites, nobody is used to the sound of silence and contemplation before giving and considering the one shot that sees it all off.

Be wise, Be sensible and Don’t be lightweight and vacuous and Instant PotNoodle culture like the rest of your contempories.

  4. He has. As have other members of the shadow cabinet and various Labour MPs. You might have to look for them because the mainstream media still appear to be giving that horrendous gobshite an extended honeymoon, but the opposition is there.

  5. John, mate…he has.

Despite the protocol of ignoring each others’ party conference rhetoric; a protocol in place for decades.

Check again, and stop giving the right-wing tw*ts ammo against us. X

  6. Have you not seen the joint statement re the awful Tory plans from conference from Caroline Lucas, Leanne Wood and Nicola Sturgen. Signed by loads of other people too. Caroline and Jonathan have been commenting on a regular basis from the start of conference. There is opposition, just not much from the official one.

  7. Disappointing John, you’re becoming part of the problem.

Get behind JC and not against him. Bad words are fuelling the Tory fire.

Or, are you doing ok in Tory Britain? ??

Jeremy Corbyn responds to today’s speech by Theresa May

Jeremy Corbyn MP, Leader of the Labour Party, responding to today’s speech by Theresa May, said:

“Conservative Party leaders have sunk to a new low this week as they fan the flames of xenophobia and hatred in our communities and try to blame foreigners for their own failures.

“Drawing up lists of foreign workers won’t stop unscrupulous employers undercutting wages in Britain. Shutting the door to international students won’t pay young people’s tuition fee debts, and ditching doctors from abroad won’t cut NHS waiting lists.

“The Conservatives will instead foster division and discrimination in our workplaces and communities.

“Once again, they are making false promises on immigration they can’t deliver. Instead of turning people against each other, ministers should take action now to deal with the real impact of migration.

“They should stop the abuse of migrant labour to undercut pay and conditions, which would reduce numbers.

“They should support communities with high levels of migration and they should set out a positive agenda for fair migration rules as part of the Brexit negotiations for a new relationship with the European Union.”

Corbyn accused the Tories of making “false promises” on immigration, and “turning people against each other”.

  10. If the decent and moderate general public can not see what the torys are doing and saying then what can labour do as most people with average intelligence should see right through them and there words and the dangerous ideas they have the think they are immune now and can get away with anything and everything.

  11. Jesus – even the tiniest bit of criticism of Corbyn is misconstrued as supporting the Tories – we are living in truly idiotic and polarised times.

    Is he beyond critique?

The writer of this excellent piece is not slagging off Corbyn – merely wondering where his voice is on a week of appalling Tory rhetoric – whether there is some unwritten rule about not speaking out or not matters little – Corbyn was yet again on holiday – another Nero vacation whilst Rome burns and his voice was needed – he made the statement after every other party spoke out and after this piece.
The problem is that now he has become so saint like to the left that every time he fucks up no-one can mention it and the argument boils down to ‘how dare you mildly wonder where saint Jeremy is -you must be a Tory’ how fucking stupid does that sound.

  12. Need to use radio and TV better, if they cant get on BBC use LBC Piccadilly radio whatever, demand right of reply. James O’Brien seems to be the voice of opposition at the moment
