2. Lonesome Train (on a lonesome track) – Johnny Burnette Trio.
Johnny Burnette is best remembered for the 1960’s sugary pop ballad ” Your 16 ” but in the mid 50’s along with his brother Dorsey and guitarist Paul Burlison they were performing what is deemed as some of the finest rockabilly music ever . Unlike a lot of rockabilly which was often recorded at small makeshift primitive studios or radio stations Burnette had the benefit of recording at some of the most celebrated studios of the time. This track is from July 1956 and was released on Coral Records . For any anoraks out there it’s clearly the great session guitarist Grady Martin playing all the great guitar licks and not Paul Burlison no matter what the books, sleeve notes or indeed Paul Burlison himself says !
