Robert newman’s top 10 favourite albums : number 5 : Sandanista! – The Clash (1980. Epic Records)

I remember when this audacious, eclectic triple album came out the rock press said that the Clash have hopelessly lost their bearings, Never were bearings so well lost! What a rich uncharted territory their internationalism took them to instead! You can hear them experimenting and enjoying themselves. And exploring ideas. The performances are incredible, and they seem to be able to throw out great songs at will.
