American entertainment website TMZ.com reports that Natalie Cole died in hospital in Los Angeles from congestive heart failure and underlying complicating medical conditions.
She had recently cancelled dates due to take place in December and February 2016 due to poor health.
Natalie had in the past struggled with substance abuse and health issues including Hepatitis C for which she had undergone treatment.
Her hits included This Will Be and she was also known for her virtual duet with her father, jazz great Nat ‘King’ Cole, on Unforgettable.
The Rev Jesse Jackson Sr tweeted: “#NatalieCole, sister beloved & of substance and sound. May her soul rest in peace. #Inseperable” on New Year’s Day and tributes have started to appear from other artists including Chuck D.
