Richard Ashcroft
Albert Hall, Manchester
December 23rd 2018
Louder Than War’s photographer Melanie Smith went along to Albert Hall to capture Wigan born musician and ex Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft’s sold out show, which had been re scheduled after a cancellation in October due to illness.
‘Natural Rebel’ is Ashcroft’s most recent album, it’s had a few mixed reviews but tonight no one cares as he blasts his way through a number of well known Verve tracks and his own acclaimed solo music. Walking on stage like a cool indie superstar, resplendent with trademark Raybans, off comes the coat, revealing a camouflaged shirt as he blasts off with ‘Hold On’ from his ‘These People’ album. Richard Ashcroft is still relevant and he acknowledges how honoured he is to be a part of Manchester’s musical heritage.
Setlist:
Hold On
Sonnet
Space and Time
Surprised by the Joy
Weeping Willow
A Song for the Lovers
Break the Night With Colour
Birds Fly
Lucky Man
That’s How Strong
The Drugs Don’t Work
They Don’t Own Me
Bitter Sweet Symphony
