Community Is Revolution is the fourth album from spoken word / experimental outfit Radio Europa. Formed around the core duo of Simon Tucker and Steven Leigh, Community Is Revolution sees the band expand to include Alec (from Welsh Post – Punk band Mwstard) and Whettman Chelmets who is an American producer and composer. Also featured on Community Is Revolution is George Tucker (Simon’s 6 year old son who provides percussion on Riding The Rails), Gwenllian Anthony from the brilliant Adwaith (vocals on Something Beautiful) and Yoga Satsanga Ashram whose Yogic chants provide the serenity on Warning Signs / A Chant For Peace.
Community Is Revolution is a slogan Simon came up with when thinking about getting other people involved with the Radio Europa project. Simon realised that in these divisive times, the simple act of working with other people on a project that has a single, positive end goal is a revolutionary act. Lyrically, the album focuses on subjects such as chronic pain conditions and with ‘Riding The Rails’ the breaking down of that tired cliché of the Rock and Roll artist as they suffer the debilitating effects of alcoholism which is encouraged by so-called “friends” who then disappear when the sufferer needs them the most.
Sonically this is the most progressive Radio Europa album to date with each member stepping outside their usual comfort zone to create an album that has its own atmosphere and unique sound.
