Pussy Riot member on hunger strikeIt seems a long time ago since we broke the Pussy Riot news on Louder Than War, but whilst all the protests come and go two of the band / project / statement remain in jail and it sounds like conditions are harsh.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, has started a hunger strike, saying the prison administration was threatening to kill her.

Tolokonnikova’s husband, Pyotr Verzilov, made her statement public on September 23.

The statement says Tolokonnikova began the hunger strike to protest threats to kill her by the warden, guards, and fellow inmates who collaborate with the prison administration.

In her statement, Tolokonnikova also gave detailed information on the alleged abuse of inmates’ rights by prison officials.

Tolokonnikova and fellow Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina are serving two-year prison sentences after being convicted of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.

They were arrested after staging a protest performance against President Vladimir Putin in Moscow’s Orthodox cathedral in February 2012.

The sentences were condemned by Western governments and rights groups as disproportionate.
