The Pussy Riot appeal has been adjourned till Oct 10th.

The story, which was first broken on Louder Than War in January, has become an international media cause.

This morning there was a dispute about defence lawyers who have already doubted if the appeal will work perhaps because the band have been asked to apologise for singing the song in the church and will not. Defendent Katya has fallen out with her lawyer and has been given time to get a new one.

Pussy Riot face two years in penal colonies hundreds of miles away in Moscow if the appeal fails.

The Russian Orthodox Church said on Sunday that clemency should be possible for the trio as long as they repented what they called their “punk prayer”. It looks unlikely that they will repent.

The three band members – Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30 – were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” in August.

Open letter to Putin concerning Pussy Riot.

The trio were all present in the Moscow court on Monday, in a glass-fronted defendants’ cage.

Ms Samutsevich argued with the judge, complaining that her request for a different defence lawyer had not been met.

This news came in seconds after we’d received an email announcing that:

JD Samson, Riot Girrrl big sister and important influence on the art group Pussy Riot has released a song for the eve of the appeal of the sentence of Masha, Nadia and Katja.
