The band who reformed a couple of years ago have been touring to critical acclaim and have a new album out later this year.

This is a major coup for the world’s premier punk festival and will be added to bands like Rancid and Bow Wow Wow who are already on the bill with 150 other bands over the week.

PiL have been announced as the key headliners at this year’s Rebellion Festival.

The biggest punk festival in the world has spent the last few years broadening its remit to cover all manner of post-punk and experimental music along with the classic punk bands which makes PiL a perfect headliner for the festival.

The band will headline in the Empress Ballroom which is internationally recognised as the best venue in the world with its unique atmosphere, long history and its ballroom grandeur adding a great backdrop to the bands.

The band’s 1978 ‘Metal Box’ set still sounds futuristic now and is one of the most daring and revolutionary records ever released.

After fronting the Sex Pistols John Lydon formed post-punk originators Public Image Ltd in 1978. “PiL” continued until 1992 with an ever-changing line-up and unique sound which saw them fuse Rock, Pop, Dance, Folk, Ballet and Dub. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative bands of all time their music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 Singles and 5 UK Top 20 Albums.

Returning in 2009 the band are at the top of their form with near two hour live shows encompassing an astonishing array of musical styles. Fronted by the always fascinating Lydon they are still pushing forward with a new album ”ËœThis Is PiL’ due this year.

Lydon will be joined by former PiL members Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums) along with 2009 recruit Scott Firth (bass).

A packed Empress Ballroom will be the perfect venue to see Public Image play this year and there will be a warm welcome for Lydon, the man who managed to create the punk movement and post punk movement in an astonishing few years of creativity and originality and remains one of the most intoxicating characters and musically awake musicians out there.
