  1. Really happy for her (if she accepts it). Let England Shake is the best protest/anti-war album made since the 60’s

  2. Lennon sent his back in protest to the war? What’s going on is the best anti war album ever made (’71)

  3. What!!! After writing a magnificent anti-imperial/anti-war album, she goes and accepts an MBE?! I think I’m going to go away and cry…

I suddenly have more respect for Ian Brown’s stunts with the flag.

  4. Got to disagree with bumblebee. (Must be a lyric in there somewhere).
The sentiments in Let England Shake transcend politics, and any incarnation of HMG, be they labour, conservative or libdem are equally deserving of our contempt. Polly, on the other hand, deserves the recognition.

  5. Really, Ridge? Is it not just a teensy bit uncomfortable contortion wise – being anti-establishment on the one hand, and taking their baubles with the other? Oh, and a nice little bob with a “Thank you, Ma’am” to put the icing on the queasy cake. Maybe it’s just me, but isn’t Let England Shake part of a public debate, at least in the artistic sphere of things? As such, it’s a little dispiriting to envisage its author dropping a curtsey to the embodiment of the state. Personally, I prefer Mr Brown’s utilisation of the flag to wipe his baggy-trousered backside and the direct republican sentiment of Elizabeth My Dear. I don’t really care about royalty (there are bigger issues to fry), but, pushed to it, I’d rather thumb my nose than bow and scrape.
