PIL – reissue entire back catalogue…

EMI Records have confirmed that the Public Image Limited back catalogue is to be reissued by in January 2012, along with John Lydon’s ‘Psycho’s Path’ album. The exception to the reissue package is ‘Metal Box’ (aka Second Edition), which was reissued in January 2011.

All the albums have been remastered, and will be reissued in their original format so will not contain any bonus material. The albums will be re-released on CD and as digital downloads; the release dated slated for the 16th January 2012.

PiL also have previously confirmed that they are currently completing a new as yet untitled studio album, also due for release in 2012.

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.

  1. Strange, as all their material is currently available ( the Lydon-solo work excepted ) as Plastic Box.
So why ? I’d like to hear the reason for no unreleased work included in the new package.

  2. Can’t really see the point in this without new material to add – surely as PIL spent so long in the studio there must be some interesting odds and ends about?
