Who would have thought it? That young man from The Jam – playing in a church with an orchestra.

Paul Weller performed five songs as part of Save the Children’s Christmas Tree Sessions, at the Union Chapel in Islington, last night.

In fitting with the occasion they were mellow numbers from the later part of his career.

Holly Johnson – late of Frankie Goes to Hollywood – blew the audience away with a stunning version of The Power of Love.

Also on the bill were Tim Burgess, Gaz from Supergrass, Lauren Laverne, Dom Joly, Myleene Klass and loads more.

You can watch the whole gig here. Weller is at 2 hours 51 minutes. Johnson at 3 hours 33 minutes.
