Paul McCartney has joined the final line up for the Hillsborough single that is the obvious xmas number for this year. The single, which got its first public play at St. Georges Hall in Liverpool this morning, is a certainty for the xmas number one with the X factor not releasing a single.
The cover of the Hollies classic ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Bother’ has been covered by an all-star line up with Mick Jones, Robbie Williams, John Power, Peter Hooton, Dave McCabe of The Zutons, Paul Heaton, Rebecca Ferguson, Paloma Faith and Beverly Knight.
The single is to be released on December 17 with all money raised by the single going towards paying the legal fees of the families who have battled to clear the name of Liverpool fans following Hillsborough.
The original idea was a re-release of the Fields Of Anfield Rd song but after Everton did their tribute by playing He Ain’t Heavy which was suggested by their chair Bill Kenwright, Peter Hooton had ‘this mad idea of covering the song with the Justice Band but then it took on a life of its own with Farm guitar player Keith getting Guy Chambers involved who brought in loads of the names and then the legendary Davo brought in Macca who recorded his vocal part last week.’
