8) Rat Scabies
Not much evidence is required for Mr Miller’s inclusion beyond the fact that a line from ‘Leader Of The Pack’ followed by six seconds of tom-toms remains one of the most thrilling intros in the history of recorded sound. When the Damned returned in 1979 as an above average rock/pop act Scabies’ huge contribution to songs such as ‘Smash It Up’ (which features his signature drum fill) and ‘Love Song’ was self evident. The band still exist of course, and while they do a good job of recreating their classic singles live, Scabies’ idiosyncratic style remains impossible to imitate.
