If further proof were needed as to a drummers ability to change the sound and direction of a band then the erstwhile Peter Clarke’s transformation of not one but 2 bands must settle the argument once and for all. On ‘Cut’ Budgie was able to temper The Slits’ more avant-garde sensibilities while simultaneously injecting a subtlety and sensitivity which is notably missing from their earlier Peel sessions.
