Remake/remodel : Smiths reform rumours continue

There’s another bunch of Smiths to reform rumours on the round.

A tweet from ‘someone in the know’ claims that 3/4 of the band are ready to go without Andy Rourke (that leaves a big space in the line up) and hints at a Glastonbury appearance whilst someone else ‘in the know’ in Manchester claims that the band are on very good terms and about to reform.

This rumour has been floating around for 18 months or so and has been roundly refuted and categorically denied by Johnny Marr and ignored by Morrissey.

Whether the band reform and how they will do it is an interesting question.

Whilst there is no official sign of the band coming back and a very full diary for the band members that doesn’t seem to include Smiths work, the whole stigma over reforming has been blown out of the water and a Smiths reunion would not be  wasted artistic opportunity and welcomed by many as a chance to finish of unfinished business with the feeling that the band had certainly not explored all the creative avenues open to them.

There is also  feeling that if they did reform they would certainly not tarnish their image as one of the most beloved UK bands.

But for the time being all this remains pub talk, internet chatter and wishful thinking…
