Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds to release new single ‘Mermaids’

The new video for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ upcoming new single ‘Mermaids’ is an excerpt from the band’s recent performance earlier this year at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on February 21st. Shot at the US launch show for the band’s universally acclaimed new album Push The Sky Away, “Mermaids” was directed by UK artists Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard for LoveLive Productions.

‘Mermaids’ will be the third track to be taken from Push The Sky Away (their fifteenth studio album, which charted at number one in seven countries) will also be released in an single package on May 20th (for digital download only). The Mermaids single package includes a studio version, along with a live version recorded at the band’s German album-launch show at Admiralspalast in Berlin on 13th February 2013, as well as two additional non-album tracks, ‘Needle Boy’ and ‘Lightning Bolts’ – both recorded during the Push The Sky Away sessions last summer at La Fabrique studio in the South of France.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have also confirmed that they will be performing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, marking the fourth time the band has appeared at the festival (having played there previously in 1994, 1998 and 2009).

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.
