New Order have reformed with Gillian Gilbert but WITHOUT Peter Hook for two shows in Europe…

17th October 2011- Ancienne Belgique – Brussels
18th October 2011 ”“ La Bataclan – Paris

This looks a bit tricky to me as Peter Hook was hardly ‘just the bass player’

The reformation arrives hot on heels on another out of the blue Mancunian band reformation with the Inspiral Carpets re-uniting with their original singer.

I guess a full reformation maybe some way off after that recent Guardian interview…that interview probably sparked this partial reformation. You can imagine the ‘fuck you’s’ that were flying around after it got printed.

The best way this would work is if it ended up as the Barney version of New Order but it’s hard to get away from the bass…

The gigs are in a good cause…
They are benefit shows in aid of the renowned artist and film producer Michael Shamberg. He produced several of New Order’s music videos, including the Brit Award winning True Faith, Touched By The Hand Of God and Regret. Shamberg has been struggling with a debilitating illness since 2005.

Bernard Sumner explained why the band wanted to help him: “Michael has been with us from the very start. Initially he was in charge of Factory New York, then became creative producer for all our early videos.

He brought our attention to the early works of Directors such as Kathryn Bigelow, Gina Birch, Robert Breer, Peter Care and Phillipe Decouffle. Michael is very ill and needs constant medical attention. We want to help him, and these shows will contribute financial support towards his ongoing care.”

Meanwhile Gillian Gilbert had this to say of her return: “It’s been a long ten years since I took a break from the band, so I I’m really happy to be back, and this is a great place to start.

Michael is a very good friend, and I want to help him, so it’s perfect timing for me to comeback now.”

what do you think? are you going to go? would you like to see them make up? would you like to see them both play the same bill at a festival! is this becoming rock’s biggest ever fued?

  1. Good cause and great news…but my personal and humble opinion is that no matter what you may feel about Peter Hook, he’s essential New Order. I can’t make it, but I hope it goes well.
